Villa have walked away from a permanent deal for Sancho over his wages. Mick Brown told Football Insider on July 31st that the winger, whose Manchester United contract expired last month, will not move from terms understood to be close to the £250,000 a week he earned at Old Trafford, and that Villa are not prepared to pay it — the same impasse that ended Chelsea's interest after his 2024-25 loan at Stamford Bridge. Sancho spent last season on loan at Villa Park and played a significant part in the Europa League win and Champions League qualification, and the club explored a free transfer once he became available rather than ruling it out. With Garnacho arriving from Chelsea on loan with a conditional obligation, the left-sided attacking slot is filled and Emery is assessing other targets. Sancho remains unattached; Brown said on July 27th that his likeliest destination is the Middle East, with an offer on the table from Al Rayyan of Qatar and his representatives in contact with Saudi Arabian clubs, while a Borussia Dortmund return runs into the same wage problem.
